Today, 10 Year Five & Six pupils went to the St Ivo
Outdoor Centre to take part in the Living Sport Level 3 Quad Kids County
Championships. We were part of a team with Brampton representing
Huntingdonshire. Due to the Year Six pupils being away on their residential, we took a mixed
team from the three teams that attended the Level 2 competition, two weeks ago.
Our team consisted of Megan C, Morgan C, Francesca
H, Tina A, Freya C, George P, Matthew P, Elliott B, Ryan B and Alfie B. They
wore their bright pink Huntingdonshire T shirts with pride.
We
started with an opening ceremony with dance performances, speeches and a
mass participation warm up. There was a guest appearance from sporting
champion Jade Windley. Jade is a former professional tennis player, who
represented Great Britain and played at Wimbledon. We finished the
ceremony with a reading of the ‘Spirit of the Games’: Determination,
Honesty, Passion, Respect, Self-Belief and Teamwork. We then moved to
the track to start the competition.
The team split into 8
groups, with athletes from the other 4 districts (Peterborough,
Cambridge, Cambs. South and Witchford) and rotated round the 4 events:
75m sprint, 600m, standing long jump and howler throw.
Everybody
worked extremely hard in the heat and maintained the ‘Spirit of the
Games’ throughout the day with many performances worthy of being
performance of the day.
There are 2 performances that stand out though.
Freya in her 600m. Freya was in a constant battle with 2 other girls
until 200m to go when they dropped 1 girl, with 100m to go Freya started
to pull away, the other girl started to pull back, but, with lots of
support from her team mates Freya pulled away to win by about 2m. The
other performance that stood out was at the end of the day when Megan
threw 24m in the howler.
We are extremely pleased with how
these athletes stepped up to the challenge of the day and represented
Crosshall Junior and Huntingdonshire in the Spirit of the Games.
