Level Three Quicksticks Hockey Tournament

Yesterday saw 6 Year Six pupils travel to the St. Ivo Outdoor Centre to take part in the Level Three Quicksticks Hockey Tournament.

We were one of four teams selected to represent the Huntingdonshire School Sports Partnership after finishing equal third in the Level Two Competition the week before.

There were four teams representing each of the following School Sports Partnerships at the competition: Huntingdonshire, Peterborough, Cambridge, South Cambridgeshire and Witchford.

Our team consisted of Megan C, Morgan C, Katie G, Sami F, Luke M and Alex B. We played 4 group matches and a placings match.

Crosshall 1 – 2 Bottisham
Megan, Morgan, Luke and Sami took to the pitch for our first match with Luke opening our scoring.

Little Thetford 0 – 1 Crosshall
Megan, Katie, Sami and Alex played the second match with Sami scoring our second goal of the tournament. Sami was substituted by Alex part way through the second half.

Eye 3 – 0 Crosshall
Katie, Morgan, Sami and Alex played the third match in which Katie was substituted by Megan and Sami by Luke.

Crosshall 0 – 4 Swavesey
Megan, Morgan, Sami and Luke played the final group match which was the toughest by far.

Kingsfield 1 – 2 Crosshall
Megan, Morgan, Alex and Luke started our placings match with Katie substituting Morgan and Sami, Alex for the second half. Morgan and Alex score our goals.

We finished fourth in our group of five – we are still waiting to hear where we finished overall.

We would like to thank the team for their commitment over the past year and we are really pleased with the progress that they have made since they started training last summer.

Level Three School Games Gymnastics Final

Today, six children from across the school represented Huntingdonshire schools in the Level Three School Games Gymnastics Final held at Huntingdon Gymnasium. After their success at the Level Two Competition, securing a top two finish out of twenty one teams, Crosshall gymnasts were keen to practise ahead of the final and put in hours of work at home and at school.

Children attended an opening ceremony at St. Ives Indoor Centre and were able to be a part of celebrating the School Games Competition with other schools from across the county. Children heard a motivational speech from Henni Goya, English professional golfer, who spoke about her top tips for performing at your best and about her work as a Sky News presenter.

After the opening ceremony, competitors were dispersed to their locations to compete. Crosshall Junior School children, representing Huntingdonshire schools, turned up in high spirits in their bright pink School Games t-shirts. The children were nervous, but excited to perform against ten other schools

Holly, Alice and Sid demonstrated their floor routine excellently and displayed tremendous sportsmanship throughout. Jessica, Kasia and Sophia competed in the body management routine competition with outstanding gymnastic technique and determination. All children participated in performing a vault for the judges, to which they were commended on their performances. The competition was extremely competitive with all children performing at an extremely high level.

After all rotations had been completed, children were encouraged to participate in some fun games. While waiting, we were able to interview Henni Goya about her successes and ask her some very important questions. She was a great School Games ambassador and even gave us her signature!

Children had a final surprise as Louis Smith turned up to train at the gym. At the end of the competition, Louis Smith kindly allowed the children to take photographs with him and ask a few questions. All of our competitors were in awe of meeting an Olympic gymnast!

The team finished in 7th place and were excited to receive their certificates. Miss Howell and Mrs Flowers would like to praise the children on their behaviour and outstanding efforts throughout.

The children had an invaluable experience in performing in such a fantastic facility and had the opportunity to meet some influential athletes too! Sophia said, "I am really grateful for the opportunity to perform this routine. We have worked so hard to learn in front of so many people."  Holly excitedly said, "I will never forget this experience!"

We would like to thank staff, parents and carers for their support. The competition provided children with many new skills and a chance to demonstrate the School Games' core values. We are looking forward to competing again next year!
